Toliver, Sparks surge past Liberty
Jul 4, 2013 - 10:19 PM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Kristi Toliver buried five 3-pointers en route to a team-high 29 points, as the Los Angeles Sparks downed the New York Liberty, 97-89, on Thursday at Staples Center.Candace Parker registered 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while Nneka Ogwumike added 15 points and six boards for the Sparks, who extended their regular-season winning streak at Staples Center to 17 games.
Cappie Pondexter poured in a game-high 34 points, with Kelsey Bone supplying 20 points and eight rebounds off the bench for the Liberty, who fell to 1-5 on the road this season.
Los Angeles led 32-24 after the first quarter and pushed the margin as high as 27 before taking a 60-37 cushion into the break.
The Liberty trimmed the deficit to single digits late in the fourth, but were unable to complete the comeback, as the Sparks held on for the victory.
