Storm hold off Sparks
Jul 25, 2013 - 10:37 PM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Tina Thompson scored 23 points and the Seattle Storm hit their free throws down the stretch to defeat the Los Angeles Sparks, 73-66.Tanisha Wright chipped in with 15 points, Temeka Johnson scored 12 and Camille Little had 11 for the Storm, who had lost four of their last five coming in.
Candace Parker led all scorers with 24 points, making 14-of-17 from the charity stripe, but the Sparks were unable to complete the home-and-home sweep.
Los Angeles trailed by as many as 18 in the game, but scored 10 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to pull within 63-61 with 2:24 remaining.
The Sparks, though, missed their next five shots, while the Storm made 5-of-6 from the free throw line and added a layup from Little to take a nine-point lead.
A pair of free throws from Johnson built Seattle's lead up to 11 to seal it.
Los Angeles lost for just the second time in its last nine games.
