Montgomery, Pondexter push Liberty past Mystics
Aug 6, 2013 - 5:33 PM Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Alex Montgomery and Cappie Pondexter poured in 21 points apiece to lift the New York Liberty to a 93-88 victory over the Washington Mystics Tuesday at Prudential Center.Pondexter added eight assists, while Kara Braxton shot 7-for-7 from the floor en route to 16 points for the Liberty, who have won three of their last five games.
Crystal Langhorne led Washington with a 24-point, 11-rebound double-double, and Matee Ajavon added 13 points for the Mystics, who have lost four straight.
Back-to-back buckets from Langhorne gave Washington a 79-65 cushion with just over eight minutes left in the fourth, but the Liberty roared back with a 12-2 surge that Montgomery capped with a 3-pointer to bring New York within 81-77.
Ivory Latta quelled the spurt with a triple of her own, but the Mystics went the next four-plus minutes without a point, allowing the Liberty to rip off a 14-0 run and take a 91-84 advantage with under 30 seconds remaining.
