Parker leads Sparks over Mercury
Sep 22, 2013 - 4:23 AM Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - 2013 MVP Candace Parker dropped 31 points with 11 rebounds to guide the Los Angeles Sparks to a road victory over the Phoenix Mercury, 82-73, to force a third game in the Western Conference Semifinals.Nneka Ogwumike registered a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds in the triumph while Lindsey Harding and Alana Beard chipped in 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Diana Taurasi paced Phoenix with 20 points but shot just 6-of-19 from the floor and 0-for-6 from 3-point range. Brittney Griner had 18 points and Candice Dupree tallied 16 points and nine boards.
The visitors jumped out to a 40-30 halftime edge and never relinquished the lead in the second half.
Trailing by as many as 15 points in the fourth period, the Mercury rattled off eight straight to get within seven at 74-67. A pair of Taurasi free throws with 34.8 seconds remaining pulled them within five, but the Sparks made five of their next six from the charity stripe to secure the win.
