Lynx surge past Sun in OT
May 19, 2014 - 12:00 AM Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Seimone Augustus drained a game-tying jumper late in regulation and Lindsay Whalen netted 10 of her 17 points in overtime to lift the Minnesota Lynx to a 90-87 win over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday.Maya Moore led the Lynx with a game-high 33 points, including eight in a row during a 14-2 run that moved Minnesota within 62-58 heading into the fourth.
Moore's driving layup with 4:44 left in the fourth gave the Lynx a 70-69 edge, but Connecticut countered with a 9-2 swing, capped by Chiney Ogwumike's layup, to take a 78-72 lead with 1:52 left.
However, the Lynx scored the final six points of regulation, culminating in Augustus' jumper with 2.3 seconds on the clock to force overtime.
Ogwumike netted the first five points of the extra session to give the Sun an early edge, but behind 10 points from Whalen, the Lynx closed the contest on a 12-4 surge to claim the victory.
Moore also registered 12 rebounds and five steals, while Augustus scored 18 for the Lynx, who opened the season with a double-digit win in Washington on Friday.
Ogwumike posted 25 points and 10 rebounds for the Sun, who were routed by New York in their season opener on Friday.
