Pondexter, Liberty edge Dream
Jul 16, 2014 - 5:32 PM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Cappie Pondexter's jumper with 0.4 seconds remaining gave the New York Liberty a 77-75 edge over the Atlanta Dream on Wednesday.Tina Charles had an 18-point, 15-rebound double-double while Sugar Rodgers and Plenette Pierson scored 15 and 14 points, respectively, off the bench for the Liberty, who snapped a two-game skid.
Angel McCoughtry netted a game-high 20 points and Sancho Lyttle scored 14 for the Eastern Conference-leading Dream, who saw their four-game win streak come to an end.
The Liberty took control during the third quarter after Rodgers' 3-pointer ignited a 9-0 run that pushed their lead to 61-49 with 2:25 to play.
The Dream roared back, scoring 10 unanswered points to open the final stanza with Lyttle's layup tying the game at 65-apiece.
Jasmine Thomas tied the game again for the Dream at 75-75 with one minute to play, but Pondexter's late bank shot was the deciding factor.
