Surging Mystics overcome huge late deficit in overtime win
Jul 21, 2007 - 3:16 AM MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Monique Currie scored 14 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter and overtime as the Washington Mystics overcame a 17-point deficit to post a 91-87 overtime victory over the Minnesota Lynx on Friday.Following a layup by Svetlana Abrosimova that gave the Lynx a 66-49 lead at the 8:28 mark of the fourth quarter, Currie and Alana Beard combined for 13 points during a 29-12 stretch over the rest of the period to send the game to an extra session.
Currie continued her solid play in overtime as she scored the first five points in the stanza, combining with teammate Nikki Blue to record all 13 points for the Mystics in the extra period.
The comeback helped Washington register its season-high fourth straight win. The Mystics are 9-4 in their last 13 games after opening the season with eight straight losses.
Seimone Augustus scored a season-high 33 points for the Lynx, who matched a dubious franchise record by losing their eighth straight game. The only other time Minnesota dropped eight in a row in one season occurred from July 5-21, 2000.
