Beard leads Mystics over Sparks
Aug 10, 2007 - 5:34 AM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Alana Beard scored 21 points to lead the Washington Mystics to an 80-75 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Thursday.DeLisha Milton-Jones added 12 points, including a pair of free throws with five seconds remaining in the game for the Mystics (14-15), who won their fourth straight and moved two games ahead of New York (12-17) for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Washington shot 44.6 percent from the field (29-of-65), while Los Angeles managed just a 40.4 percent (29-of-72) mark. The Sparks (9-20) rank 12th out of 13 teams in the league with a team field-goal percentage of 40.7.
Taj McWilliams-Franklin and Christi Thomas led the Sparks with 14 points apiece.
The Mystics have five regular-season contests remaining, including a showdown with the Liberty on August 16.
