Sun-Fever Preview

Jun 12, 2010 - 6:32 PM By MATT BEARDMORE STATS Writer

Connecticut (6-2) at Indiana (5-4), 6:00 p.m. EDT

The Connecticut Sun have been unbeatable at home this year. They haven't enjoyed the same results away from Mohegan Sun Arena.

Connecticut looks for its first road win since August when it tries to sweep a home-and-home series from the Indiana Fever on Sunday.

Renee Montgomery set a career high with 29 points as Connecticut (6-2) improved to a league-best 6-0 at home with Friday's 86-77 win over the Fever. Montgomery also recorded a career-best five 3-pointers, but coach Mike Thibault was pleased with his team's play late in the game.

"I was very proud of the way we played in the fourth quarter. One turnover," Thibault said after his team snapped Indiana's three-game winning streak. "We're not all the way there yet, but boy, this was a good step."

The Fever (5-4) will look to do the same Sunday after they tied a season high for points allowed.

"Renee had a great game. But one of the things we want to be known as is a great defensive team and 29 points is too many points for us to give up to one person," forward Tamika Catchings told the Fever's official website. "But, hey, she played great and we have two days to regroup before seeing them Sunday again."

Connecticut, which lost both games at Conseco Fieldhouse last season, is 0-2 on the road this season and has dropped 10 straight away from Mohegan Sun Arena since beating Detroit on Aug. 2.

The Fever will look to extend the Sun's road woes and win four straight at home for the first time since a 13-game run ended Aug. 29.

Another big effort from Jessica Davenport off the bench could help Indiana win its third straight at home in this matchup. The center went 8 for 8 and scored a career-high 18 points Friday.

Davenport will likely see plenty of time against Sun rookie center Tina Charles, who had a season-high six blocks and posted her third straight double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

Charles is among the league leaders with 10.8 rebounds per game.

Katie Douglas, who spent her first seven seasons with the Sun franchise before being traded to Indiana following the 2007 season, hit a season high-tying five 3s and scored 15 points Friday. Douglas tallied 32 points to become the first player in Fever history with back-to-back 30-point games as Indiana won 94-85 in overtime in the Sun's last visit to Conseco Fieldhouse on July 30.

Connecticut is 12-9 all-time at Indiana.
