Fowles scores 22 to lift Sky over Dream 88-82

Jul 4, 2010 - 2:35 AM ATLANTA(AP) -- Sylvia Fowles had 22 points and 12 rebounds to help the Chicago Sky snap the Atlanta Dream's four-game winning streak in a rugged 88-82 victory Saturday night.

The Sky (8-9) made 35 of their 42 free throws, while the Dream were 30 for 39.

"It was a very physical game, especially at the end there," Chicago coach Steven Keys said. "A lot of bodies were flying, people getting hit. Anytime you have two teams that really want to win, you are going to have physical contact."

Fowles knocked Sancho Lyttle out of the game with about three minutes remaining when her elbow caught the Atlanta player on the left cheekbone when she caught a rebound.

Dream coach Marynell Meadors said Lyttle had a concussion.

No foul was called and the Atlanta bench was charged with a technical foul.

"She hit three people tonight with those elbows," Dream coach Marynell Meadors said. "I don't have anything good to say (about the officiating), so I'm not going to say anything at all."

Erin Thorn scored 14 points for Chicago, which got 32 points from bench players.

Angel McCoughtry had 20 points for Atlanta (13-5). The Eastern Conference-leading Dream are 7-2 at home this season - both losses came against the Sky, who won 80-70 on June 4.

Chicago's Mistie Bass also may have broken her nose when she fouled McCoughtry on a a 3-point attempt. McCoughtry's shoulder Bass in the act of shooting and Bass was called for a foul.

Atlanta went on a 7-2 run to make it 82-80 with 1:17 remaining, but Dominique Canty hit a jumper and Fowles made two foul shots to close out the victory.

The Dream, who made 6 of their first 21 shots to start the game, trailed by eight points early in the second quarter before tying it at 45 by halftime.

The game was the fourth in seven days for the Dream, who conclude a six-game homestand against Connecticut on Wednesday.
