Fowles paces Sky to season-opening win over Mystics

May 20, 2012 - 1:22 AM Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Sylvia Fowles scored 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to help the Chicago Sky to a 69-57 season-opening win over the Washington Mystics.

Fowles, who went 10-of-14 from the field, scored 11 points in the last quarter, when the Sky shot 64.3 percent.Epiphanny Prince added 16 points and Swin Cash chipped in 14 points for Chicago, which went 14-20 last season. Cash, who was acquired from Seattle in a blockbuster offseason trade, also had seven rebounds.

Crystal Langhorne had 16 points and Monique Currie added 14 for the Mystics, who were an Eastern Conference-worst 6-28 last year. Washington committed 23 turnovers, leading to 25 Chicago points. The Mystics also shot just 40.7 percent, compared to 51.9 for the Sky.

Washington held a 17-7 scoring edge in the third quarter to get within 45-42, but fell apart down the stretch. Langhorne's jumper with six minutes left cut the margin to 52-47, but Cash drilled a shot from beyond the arc to cap an ensuing 7-0 burst to effectively put away the Mystics.
