Fever handle Dream in season opener
May 20, 2012 - 1:49 AM Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Katie Douglas scored 21 points, Tamika Catchings had 16 and the Indiana Fever cruised past the Atlanta Dream, 92-84, on Saturday in the season opener for both teams.Jessica Davenport finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Fever, who made 12-of-21 three-pointers and never trailed in the contest.
Angel McCoughtry scored a game-high 26 points to pace the Dream while Sancho Lyttle chipped in 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Indiana was up 28-20 after the first quarter, then limited Atlanta to just 12 points on 5-of-21 shooting in the second to establish a comfortable advantage. Catchings did not miss a shot in the quarter and poured in seven points, helping push the margin to 17 before the Fever took a 47-32 lead into the break.
The Dream failed to threaten in the second half and Douglas scored seven points in the fourth quarter as the Fever once again went up by 17 to match their largest lead of the game.
