McWilliams-Franklin powers Sparks past Lynx
Jun 9, 2007 - 5:17 AM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Taj McWilliams-Franklin scored 20 points and rookie Marta Fernandez tied her season high with 19 as the Los Angeles Sparks posted a 90-87 victory over the Minnesota Lynx on Friday.Chamique Holdsclaw had 12 points, five rebounds and four assists and Christi Thomas scored 10 for Los Angeles (3-2), which won its 10th straight home opener since losing the franchise's inaugural game against New York in 1997.
McWilliams-Franklin, who connected on 10-of-13 from the floor, had 10 points at halftime when the Sparks had a 49-38 lead.
After Kristen Mann tallied 12 of her 15 points in the third quarter to help Minnesota cut its deficit to 66-64 entering the final period, McWilliams-Franklin scored six points in the fourth quarter to help the Sparks win their seventh straight regular season home game.
Seimone Augustus, who leads the league in scoring, scored 28 points on 11-of-12 from the field for the Lynx (1-8), who are off to the worst start in the franchise's nine-year history.
