Lawson, Powell help Monarchs nip Sky

Jun 20, 2007 - 2:22 AM CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Reserve Kara Lawson scored 19 points as the Sacramento Monarchs posted a 54-52 victory over the Chicago Sky on Tuesday.

Nicole Powell scored 16 points and Rebekkah Brunson grabbed six rebounds for Sacramento (8-3), which has won three straight and has never lost to Chicago in three meetings.

With the score knotted at 52-52 with 11.4 seconds to play, Sacramento inbounded the ball before Lawson passed to Powell at the top of the key. Powell drove the lane and made a three-foot runner with 4.7 ticks on the clock to give the Monarchs a 54-52 lead.

The Sky tried to get the ball to Candice Dupree on the low block, but the pass was overthrown and Sacramento recovered to run out the clock.

Dupree scored 21 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds and rookie Armintie Price scored 10 points for the Sky (7-6), who were trying to extend their winning streak to a franchise-record three games.
