Beard, Milton-Jones lead Mystics past Mercury
Jun 21, 2007 - 4:28 AM PHOENIX (Ticker) -- Alana Beard scored a season-high 29 points and DeLisha Milton-Jones also scored a season-high 22 as the Washington Mystics beat the Phoenix Mercury, 106-101, on Wednesday.It was the most points Washington has ever scored against an opponent.
Rookie reserve Bernice Mosby had a season-high 13 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks and Nakia Sanford added 11 points and seven rebounds for Washington (2-9), which has won two of three after starting the season with eight losses.
Beard, who connected on 10-of-18 from the floor, came within one point of reaching her career-high set against the Seattle Storm on July 23, 2006. Beard also made three 3-pointers for the Mystics, who shot 47 percent (35-of-75) and have achieved both of their wins vs. the Mercury this season.
Diana Taurasi scored 25 points and Penny Taylor scored as season-high 23 for Phoenix, which shot 41 percent (34-of-83), but missed 19 of its 28 3-point attempts. Taurasi, who only made 6-of-17 shots, was just 1-of-7 in the fourth quarter for the Mercury, who surrendered 100-plus points for the second time in 2007.
