Castro Marques powers Storm to rout of Liberty
Jul 2, 2007 - 3:05 AM SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Iziane Castro Marques scored 24 points to lead the Seattle Storm to an 84-53 romp over the New York Liberty on Sunday.Lauren Jackson added 12 points and 11 rebounds and Sue Bird contributed 11 points as Seattle (8-7) improved to 6-2 at home this year.
Castro Marques shot 9-of-12 from the floor, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, and finished one point shy of her season high.
The Storm used a 29-6 run bridging halftime to take a commanding 59-32 advantage with 5:09 to play in the third quarter.
After the Liberty (8-8) had pulled within 30-26 in the second quarter, Betty Lennox and Castro Marques scored five points apiece in a 15-2 closing run to give Seattle a 45-28 halftime cushion.
Loree Moore scored 10 points to lead New York, which lost for the eighth time in its last 11 games.
