Young leads Silver Stars past Mystics
Jul 4, 2007 - 1:19 AM WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Sophia Young matched her career-high of 24 points as the San Antonio Silver Stars posted an 84-79 victory over the Washington Mystics on Tuesday.Erin Buescher scored 19 points and Ruth Riley and Vickie Johnson each had 10 for San Antonio (10-6), which played without leading scorer Becky Hammon, who missed her second straight game with an injured ankle.
Young, who shot 9-of-12 from the floor, also had 24 points vs. the Minnesota Lynx on June 20.
Buescher, who had a season-high 23 points in a 71-68 victory over the defending champion Detroit Shock on Sunday, made two free throws with 22 seconds remaining to give the Silver Stars an 83-77 lead.
San Antonio shot a season-high 56 percent (31-of-55).
Alana Beard scored 26 points and Monique Currie scored 16 for Washington (5-12), which shot 41 percent (29-of-70) and has lost two straight after a three-game winning streak.
