Thibault sets record as Mystics hold off Storm

Jul 7, 2013 - 1:42 AM Washington, DC (Sports Network) - The Washington Mystics nearly blew an 18- point lead but held on to beat the Seattle Storm, 62-59, to give head coach Mike Thibault his record-breaking 212th victory.

Crystal Langhorne scored 12 points and Ivory Latta added 11 for the Mystics, who have won two in a row after losing five straight.

Saturday's win broke a tie with Thibault and former Houston Comets coach Van Chancellor atop the WNBA all-time wins list for coaches.

Shekinna Stricklen netted a game-high 20 points for the Storm, but it wasn't enough in the club's fourth loss in five games.

The Mystics scored the last nine points of the first quarter to race out to a 21-7 lead, and they stayed comfortably in front before the Storm rallied in the fourth quarter.

Camille Little had a chance to tie the game at the foul line with 20.5 seconds left but went 1-of-2 at the stripe to cut Seattle's deficit to 60-59.

Latta made two free throws at the other end, and Tina Thompson, who was 2- for-12 from the field, missed two potential tying threes before Stricklen was off the mark on another attempt from long range just before the buzzer sounded.

Seattle committed 26 turnovers in the loss.
