Currie, Beard lead Mystics over Comets

Jul 18, 2007 - 6:22 PM WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Monique Currie and Alana Beard scored 16 points apiece as the Washington Mystics used a dominant fourth quarter en route to a 65-58 victory over the Houston Comets on Wednesday afternoon.

DeLisha Milton-Jones collected 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Mystics (8-12), who outscored the Comets, 24-7, in the final period to secure the victory.

Currie shot 6-of-10 from the field and Beard was 7-of-15 from the floor for Washington, which shot just 37.5 percent (24-of-64), including 2-of-11 on 3-pointers.

But the Mystics, who fell behind 22-12 after the opening period, benefited from cold shooting by the Comets (6-15), especially in the final quarter.

Tina Thompson netted 14 points for Houston, which shot just 35 percent (21-of-60) and was outrebounded, 43-39.
