Lynx tear into Liberty

Aug 28, 2013 - 2:01 AM Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Lindsay Whalen totaled a game-high 18 points, while Maya Moore added 11 points with 10 rebounds in Minnesota's 73-47 rout of New York on Tuesday.

Monica Wright posted 10 points for the Lynx, who upped their lead to 1 1/2 games over Los Angeles for the top spot in the Western Conference, with the Sparks in action later.

Cappie Pondexter had 13 points and Plenette Pierson picked up 12 for the Liberty, who trail Indiana by 1 1/2 games for the final playoff berth in the East and take on the Fever on Friday.

Minnesota led 7-0 at the outset and took a 22-9 edge early in the second quarter. That advantage grew to 39-21 at the break.

The Lynx led by as many as 20 in the third, but a brief burst by the hosts made it 45-34 thanks to a Pondexter bucket. But the visitors scored the final six points of the period and kept their foot on the gas in the fourth.
