Canty, Perkins lead Sky past Silver Stars
Jul 23, 2007 - 12:53 AM CHICAGO (Ticker) -- The San Antonio Silver Stars got more than they bargained for against the Chicago Sky on Sunday.Dominique Canty's jump shot with 6.1 seconds to play in overtime was the difference as the Sky upset the Silver Stars, 84-82, to capture their second consecutive win.
The best team in the Western Conference, San Antonio (14-7) fell to a Chicago squad that had just one win in its last six games. The Silver Stars did have an opportunity to extend the game in the waning seconds of overtime, but Becky Hammon's shot was off the mark.
Though she did not provide the game-winning bucket, Jia Perkins had a huge game for the Sky. The 5-8 guard came off the bench to lead all scorers with 27 points, including nine in fourth quarter.
Canty scored 13 points for Chicago (10-13) and Armintie Price added another 12. Sophia Young lead the Silver Stars with 25 points and Hammon finished with 20.
