Beard spoils Jackson's career night as Mystics beat Storm
Jul 25, 2007 - 1:52 AM WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Lauren Jackson's career night was not enough as the Seattle Storm fell to the Washington Mystics in overtime, 97-96, on Tuesday.Jackson scored a career-high 47 points - the most against the Washington franchise - but Alana Beard scored seven of the Mystics' nine points in overtime to seal the win.
Beard scored 27 points, Monique Currie added 23 and DeLisha Milton-Jones 22 as the Mystics shot 49 percent (37-of-75) en route to their eighth win in the last 11 games.
With the game tied in overtime, Currie put the Storm ahead, 90-88, with a layup and Beard then hit a layup, a 3-pointer and a 13-footer to make the score 97-93. Jackson then hit a late 3-pointer with nine-tenths of a second left.
Jackson tied the game at 86-86 with a pair of free throws with 1:28 left and hit another two with three seconds left to tie it at 88-88 and send the game into overtime.
Nikki Teasley and Nakia Sanford opened the door for the Storm to the tie game by combining to miss 2-of-4 free throws down the stretch in the fourth quarter.
