Dupree lifts Sky over Shock
Jul 27, 2007 - 2:10 AM AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- Candice Dupree scored 24 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, to lead the Chicago Sky to an 83-73 win over the Detroit Shock on Thursday.Stacey Dales added 16 and Jia Perkins scored 14 off the bench for Chicago, which defeated Detroit for the first time in its two-year existence.
Buoyed by a 12-0 run in the first quarter, the Sky (11-13) controlled the game until the third quarter, when Detroit pulled even at 42-42 behind baskets by Swin Cash, Katie Feenstra and Katie Smith.
But Chicago took over again and closed out the quarter with a 3-point shot by Perkins that capped an 11-5 run and restored a nine-point lead.
Perkins carried the rally into the fourth with back-to-back shots that included another 3-pointer and a 13-point lead.
The Shock, who had won seven straight games, trailed by as many as 16 points in the fourth, despite rookie Ivory Latta's 4-of-6 performance from the floor.
Latta, who came off the bench, finished with 13 points and three 3-pointers, tying Feenstra to lead the Shock (18-6).
Brooke Wyckoff and Dales each hit 3-pointers to close out a 12-0 run that put Chicago up, 23-10, after the first quarter. The Sky extended the lead to 42-36 at halftime en route to their three straight victory.
The Shock closed the gap early in the second with a 12-0 run to make it 25-22. Smith, who had five points in the run, and Shannon Reese each sank 3-point shots to bring the Shock within four points.
Detroit also announced Cheryl Ford, who was named MVP of the All-Star game, will miss the remainder of the regular season with a left knee injury.
