Dales, Sky top Comets
Aug 17, 2007 - 2:45 AM HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Stacey Dales scored 17 points and Candice Dupree added 14 and nine rebounds as the Chicago Sky opened the contest with a huge run and posted an 81-70 victory over the Houston Comets on Thursday night.Jia Perkins netted 13 points for the Sky (14-19), who shot just 39 percent (27-of-69) from the field but outrebounded the Comets, 35-31, to secure the victory.
Chicago started the game with a 21-2 run, capped by Dales' 3-pointer with 2:10 left in the first quarter. Dales, who shot 5-of-15 from the field, scored eight points in the opening period.
Houston pulled within 55-51 on Roneeka Hodges' shot from the arc with 1:39 left in the third quarter. But Chicago reeled off the next six points to take control of the game and did not let the Comets inch any closer than eight points in the fourth.
Tina Thompson scored 33 points for Houston (12-21), which shot 43 percent (25-of-58) from the field - including 7-of-14 on 3-pointers.
