Sparks rout Sun behind huge second half

Jul 13, 2014 - 7:31 PM Uncasville, CT (SportsNetwork.com) - Nneka Ogwumike tallied 24 points on 8- of-13 shooting to lead the way as the Los Angeles Sparks rolled to a 90-64 victory over the Connecticut Sun.

Jantel Lavender also went 8-of-13 from the floor in a 19-point effort for the Sparks, with Candace Parker adding 15 points and nine rebounds to the rout.

Los Angeles broke open a close game at the half with a dominant third quarter en route to its second straight double-digit win.

Parker and Ogwumike each deposited eight points during the period, in which the Sparks outscored Connecticut 30-10 while making good on 10-of-13 field attempts.

Los Angeles pulled away via a 17-2 run that turned a four-point lead into a commanding 61-42 advantage with four minutes to go in the third. Ogwumike accounted for six of the first eight points of the pivotal spurt.

The Sparks stretched the margin to 74-48 heading into the fourth quarter and were up by as many as 31 points in the final frame.

Chiney Ogwumike, Nneka's sister, paced the Sun with 18 points. Connecticut dropped its third straight game and lost for the seventh time in its last eight.
