Catchings hits game-winner, becomes 2nd all-time scorer

Jul 29, 2015 - 2:04 AM UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) Tamika Catchings hit a game-winning fadeaway jumper with 6 seconds left in overtime and became the WNBA's second all-time leading scorer as the Indiana Fever beat the Connecticut Sun 75-73 on Tuesday night to open the second half of the season.

Jasmine Thomas' last second heave from half court did not hit the rim.

Shavonte Zellous scored a season-high 19 points for Indiana (9-8). Catchings finished with 15 points, including a first-quarter 3-pointer to move her past Diana Taurasi on the scoring list. Shenise Johnson added 13 points for the Fever. The game was originally scheduled for July 18 but travel issues for Indiana forced the postponement.

Kelsey Bone led Connecticut (8-8) with 14 points. Alex Bentley scored just three points to end her string of 11 straight games in double figures. Bone's 3-point play, followed by Camille Little's 3-pointer gave the Sun a 73-71 lead with 1:51 remaining.

Indiana took an 11-point lead late in the third quarter before Connecticut went on a 7-0 run to get within 56-52. The Sun started the fourth quarter on an 11-3 spurt, capped by Bone's layup for their first lead of the game at 65-63. Erlana Larkins answered with a layup for Indiana's first field goal of the fourth at the 3:09 mark.

Bone tied the game at 67 with a layup with 1:10 left in regulation. Those were the only points for either team in the final 3 minutes of the fourth.
