WNBA franchise in North Texas area to be called Dallas Wings

Nov 2, 2015 - 9:29 PM ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) The WNBA team relocating to North Texas will be called the Dallas Wings.

The franchise moved from Tulsa, Oklahoma, after six seasons and will play at the 7,000-seat arena on the University of Texas at Arlington campus.

The team name and logo were introduced Monday, with players Skylar Diggins and Odyssey Sims among those attending. Sims played high school basketball in nearby Irving and was a star at Baylor.

Majority owner Bill Cameron says the Wings are ''a young and dynamic team with tremendous upside.'' NBA Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum calls the Dallas-Fort Worth area ''home to some of the most passionate basketball fans in the world.''

Arlington is halfway between the two cities.
