Calgary QB Dickenson retires

Feb 4, 2009 - 7:23 PM CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) - Calgary Stampeders quarterback Dave Dickenson announced his retirement Wednesday.

Dickenson won three Grey Cups during his 10-year career in the Canadian Football League, but a series of concussions has limited him in recent years.

The 36-year-old, who began his career with the Stampeders before moving on to the B.C. Lions, finished with 22,913 yards and 154 touchdowns.

In his final year with B.C. in 2007, Dickenson missed most of the season after suffering the fourth concussion of his career.

He returned to Calgary as a free agent last season, but post-concussion symptoms limited him to just two games and nine pass attempts.

In addition to his Grey Cup rings, Dickenson was named the league's most outstanding player in 2000 after throwing for 36 touchdowns and 4,636 yards.

Dickenson also spent time in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks, Detroit Lions and San Diego Chargers, but never saw any game action.
