Ramirez walk off HR sends White Sox past Indians
Apr 14, 2014 - 1:51 AM Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Alexei Ramirez's two-run homer in the ninth inning lifted the Chicago White Sox to a 4-3 win over the Cleveland Indians in the finale of a four-game set at U.S. Cellular Field. The Indians rallied for a pair of runs off Matt Lindstrom (1-1) in the top of the ninth to tie the game. Michael Brantley reached on a fielding error and moved to second on Yan Gomes' base hit to left. David Murphy then singled home Brantley to tie the game.
Mike Aviles followed with a sacrifice bunt to push Gomes to third and after Asdrubal Cabrera struck out, Lindstrom bounced a slider to the backstop, allowing Gomes to score.
Jordan Danks worked a leadoff walk off John Axford (0-1) before Ramirez clobbered the first pitch he saw to left for the walk-off win.
"He's been swinging a hot bat," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said of Ramirez. "It didn't matter what (Axford) threw, he was going to take a pretty good hack at it."
Marcus Semien hit a solo homer and Dayan Viciedo went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the White Sox, who took three of four in the series.
Chicago starter Jose Quintana allowed just one run -- a solo homer to Brantley -- among five hits over six innings.
Corey Kluber started for the Tribe and allowed two runs on eight hits while striking out six over 7 1/3 innings.
"My goal was just to pound the zone and be aggressive," Kluber said.
The game featured two hours of rain delays and the first pitch was pushed back over an hour.
Brantley stroked a two-out homer in the fourth to give Cleveland an early lead.
Chicago countered in the home half on Viciedo's infield single with runners on the corners.
With one out in the eighth, Semien hammered a 3-2 sinker into the left-field stands.
