Indians, White Sox close set at U.S. Cellular Field
Apr 13, 2014 - 12:18 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Jose Quintana got plenty of run support his last time out. He hopes for the same on Sunday when the Chicago White Sox close out a four-game series with the Cleveland Indians at U.S. Cellular Field.Quintana was the beneficiary of the White Sox' 15-run outburst on Tuesday in Colorado, but he didn't really need it, as he allowed only two runs and five hits over seven innings to pick up his first win of the season, while lowering his ERA to 2.77.
"Q pitched great," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said, "especially in this ballpark to be able to do that."
Quintana is 2-0 in seven games (5 starts) versus the Indians with a 2.80 ERA.
Cleveland, meanwhile, will counter with righty Corey Kluber, who is 1-1 with a 7.71 ERA. Kluber rebounded from an awful first showing on Tuesday against San Diego, as he surrendered three runs and nine hits in six innings.
Kluber has faced the White Sox five times (4 starts) and is 2-1 with a 3.95 ERA.
Cleveland snapped a three-game slide on Saturday, as David Murphy went 2-for-5 with a homer, triple and four RBI to lead the Indians to a 12-6 win.
Josh Outman (2-0) worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win. Starter Justin Masterson allowed six runs -- five earned -- on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings. Masterson walked five and struck out seven.
"A lot of runs scored, but I was decently happy with how things went as far as how I felt when I let go of the ball," said Masterson. "As far as things after letting go of the ball, things I can't control, they kind of got to me a bit."
Adam Eaton was 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two runs scored and Adam Dunn added a pair of RBI for the White Sox, who had won two straight entering the contest.
Ronald Belisario (1-1) gave up two runs on two hits in just 1 1/3 innings. Starter Felipe Paulino was shelled for six runs on six hits -- including three homers -- over five frames.
"Lately we've had (bullpen) guys going two innings. We need our starters to go deeper into games," said White Sox manager Robin Ventura.
Cleveland was 17-2 versus the White Sox last season.
