Twins pay a visit to Progressive Field

May 5, 2014 - 2:28 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Cleveland right-hander Zack McAllister gets another chance to continue recent momentum against the Minnesota Twins, when the Indians host them Monday night for the first of a four-game series at Progressive Field.

McAllister posted an ugly 8.00 earned run average and lost each of three starts against Minnesota in 2012, but the Indians won all three of the meetings between he and the Twins last season -- with McAllister emerging 2-0 with a pristine 1.53 ERA.

He's coming off a loss in his most recent outing this season, however, when he went on short rest and was nicked for five runs in just 4 1/3 innings of Cleveland's 7-1 loss to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Wednesday.

"I made a lot of pitches early and walked some guys," he said. "But as far as the way my body felt and my arm felt, I felt extremely good out there."

Cleveland may also see the return of Michael Bourn, who's been on the disabled list all season with a left hamstring injury.

"That might be a little ambitious, but if they're saying that, it's a very good sign," Indians manager Terry Francona said.

Kyle Gibson gets the start for Minnesota with an aim toward ending a two-start skid.

The right-hander began the season with three consecutive victories -- including a five-inning, one-run effort against the Indians on April 5 -- before losing his last two starts.

He's been hit hard in the losses, allowing 12 runs in only 9 2/3 innings.

On Sunday in Minneapolis, Kurt Suzuki went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI as the Twins downed the Baltimore Orioles, 5-2, in the rubber match of a three-game series.

Trevor Plouffe had two hits and drove in two for the Twins, who saw starter Phil Hughes (3-1) allow two runs on six hits while striking out three over 6 1/3 frames. Glen Perkins picked up his seventh save of the season after striking out Nick Markakis with two outs and runners on the corners in the ninth.

In Cleveland, Dayan Viciedo's three-run homer in the ninth inning spoiled Corey Kluber's fantastic start and propelled the Chicago White Sox past the Indians, 4-3, to complete a three-game sweep.

John Axford (0-2) replaced Kluber in the ninth and issued a leadoff walk to Gordon Beckham. Axford struck out rookie slugger Jose Abreu, but walked Adam Dunn to put two runners on. Viciedo then laced a 1-1 fastball over the wall in right for the go-ahead run. Axford retired the next hitter before Marc Rzepczynski recorded the final out of the game.

Kluber allowed one run on three hits and struck out a career-high 13.

Minnesota took two of three from the Tribe in early April.
