Mariners hope to bounce back in finale vs. White Sox

Aug 10, 2014 - 2:21 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - After seeing their four-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday night, the Seattle Mariners will try to exact revenge on the Chicago White Sox at Safeco Field as the four-game series comes to a close.

Saturday's bout needed extra innings to be decided. In the top of the 10th inning, Conor Gillaspie delivered an RBI single, which ultimately lifted the White Sox to a 2-1 victory.

Alexei Ramirez (2-for-4) accounted for the only other run with an RBI double in the seventh inning, and he also stole his 18th base of the season. Jose Abreu was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Hector Noesi was outstanding in 7 1/3 innings of work, allowing one unearned run while scattering just five hits in the no-decision. Eric Surkamp (1-0) earned the win and Jake Petricka shut the door in the bottom of the 10th for his eighth save.

Fernando Rodney (1-5) surrendered the game-winning hit in the 10th. James Paxton started the game for the Mariners and pitched 6 1/3 strong innings (6 H, ER, 4 K).

The Mariners' lone run came in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by Kyle Seager. Kendrys Morales was 2-for-4 out of the clean-up spot.

On the hill for Chicago on Sunday will be John Danks, who, despite a solid 9-7 record, has disappointed this season with a 4.93 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP.

Danks had his worst outing of the season his last time out, as he was knocked around for nine earned runs in 4 2/3 innings in an Aug. 5 loss to Texas.

The southpaw has yielded 30 earned run in 41 1/3 innings since the start of July.

The Mariners will counter with Erasmo Ramirez, who's being recalled from Triple-A Tacoma. He's just 1-5 through 12 starts this season with a 4.35 ERA.

Ramirez had one of his best outings of the season his last time out against the Mets on July 22, yielding just five hits and two earned runs in seven innings while striking out seven, but he turned out to be the hard-luck loser.

Ramirez has been solid at home this season with a 3.29 ERA at Safeco Field, but he has an 0-3 record to show for it for Seattle, which is one of three AL teams 1 1/2 games out of a wild card spot.
