Rangers try to keep runs coming in Houston

Aug 30, 2014 - 12:51 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Texas Rangers hope to have some runs left in them when they resume a four-game series against the Houston Astros Saturday from Minute Maid Park.

The Rangers notched 16 hits in Friday's 13-6 victory over the Astros, as Rougned Odor and Michael Choice both homered and finished with three RBI. Choice and Adam Rosales each had three hits for the Rangers, who rebounded from Thursday's 4-2 loss to win for the fourth time in six tries.

Scott Baker picked up the win and allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings.

"I made a few pitches that I needed to get out of jams." said Baker.

Texas has scored 12 or more runs twice in the last three games and is 3-2 on a 10-game road trip. It is 2-1-1 in the last four road series and has won four of the past six as the visitor.

The Rangers, who are last in the AL West and 29-41 on the road, will send Robbie Ross Jr. to the mound Saturday for a spot start. Ross is 2-5 with a 6.06 earned run average and lost his previous outing on Aug. 14 in a 6-3 setback to Tampa Bay, as he gave up all six runs in 4 1/3 innings.

Ross, a left-hander, has made eight career relief appearances against the Astros and is 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA in that stretch.

Houston lost for the fifth time in seven tries on Friday and dropped to 2-3 on a nine-game homestand.

Jason Castro homered, Marwin Gonzalez collected three hits and two RBI and Dexter Fowler ended 2-for-2 with an RBI in the loss. Astros starting pitcher Brett Oberholtzer was hammered for seven runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings and dropped to 4-10 on the season.

"You just look at tonight as a night where you didn't pitch too well and it really took us a while," Houston manager Bo Porter said. "You put it behind you and get it tomorrow."

The Astros have scored four or more runs in each of the last four games, but haven't been able to take advantage of it. They will also host the LA Angels for two games on the current stay.

Scott Feldman draws the start for the 'Stros Saturday and has a 7-10 mark to go along with a 4.34 earned run average. Feldman is 3-2 in his last five decisions and suffered an 8-2 loss to Oakland on Monday, charged with three runs and seven hits in seven innings.

Feldman is 5-5 in 13 starts at Minute Maid park and 2-1 with a 4.11 ERA in five career starts against the Rangers.

Houston has won nine of 14 versus Texas this season and is hoping to secure the Silver Boot in this series for the first time since 2006.
