Norris hopes to reverse fortunes against Red Sox
Apr 26, 2015 - 2:19 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Wade Miley tries to follow up his first win of the season on Sunday when the Boston Red Sox close out their three-game series with the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards.Acquired from Arizona this winter, Miley picked up his first win as a member of the Red Sox on Tuesday against Tampa Bay, as he held the Rays to three hits over 5 2/3 scoreless innings. He also walked four batters, but evened his mark at 1-1 to go along with a 6.08 ERA.
"As we've expected, he was down in the zone pretty consistently throughout the time on the mound," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. "I think his two-seamer and changeup was good against nine right-handed hitters."
Baltimore, meanwhile, will hand the ball to righty Bud Norris, who has been awful thus far, going 0-2 with a 17.42 ERA. Norris' last start was his worst, as he failed to get out of the third inning Tuesday versus Toronto, yielding nine runs in just 2 1/3 frames.
"This is not how I envisioned starting my 2015 season, but this game is all built on failure, and you have to learn from that," Norris said.
Norris is 1-2 in five starts against the Red Sox with a 3.41 ERA.
Baltimore evened this series at a game apiece on Saturday, as David Lough's solo home run in the 10th inning propelled the Orioles to a 5-4 win.
Boston had taken the lead in the top of the 10th on Xander Bogaerts' homer, but Adam Jones led off the home half with a triple just out of the reach of a diving Allen Craig in right, and scored on Chris Davis' sacrifice fly before Lough crushed a splitter deep into the seats in right field for the win.
"It's huge," said Lough. "It's always good to give the team a win and see the smiles on the guys' faces."
Jimmy Paredes went 4-for-5 with a solo home run, two RBI and two runs scored for the Orioles, who snapped a five-game losing streak.
Wei-Yin Chen pitched eight innings and gave up two runs on four hits with a walk and five strikeouts, but the Red Sox tied the game against Zach Britton in the ninth. Brian Matusz (1-2) got the win for getting the final two outs of the 10th.
Mike Napoli was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer for the Red Sox, who have lost three of their last four. Justin Masterson allowed three runs on seven hits over seven frames, and Koji Uehara (0-1) gave up both runs in the 10th.
"We kept them off-balance," said Masterson. "In the end, they were the resilient team tonight."
These teams split a four-game series in Boston last weekend.
