Astros aim to snap season-long skid in finale with White Sox

Jun 10, 2015 - 2:21 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Houston Astros are caught in a snag and look to stop a season-high six-game losing streak Wednesday in the finale of a three-game series with the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.

The Astros dropped a 4-2 decision against the White Sox on Tuesday and top prospect Carlos Correa hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning. Correa made his major league debut on Monday.

Dallas Keuchel was impressive again and allowed two runs in seven innings, but fell to 7-2 on the season. He struck out five and walked two batters.

"Dallas was very sharp early," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. "He kept his pitch count extremely low early, and they got a couple singles to build that inning, but I thought he showed a lot of character coming out of that."

Houston now leads the AL West by two games ahead of Texas and will host Seattle and Colorado next at Minute Maid Park.

Vincent Velasquez will make the jump from Double-A Wednesday for his major league debut. The righty went 3-0 with a 1.37 earned run average in five starts at Corpus Christi and seems confident in his abilities.

"It's baseball. It's the same thing," Velasquez said. "You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball, score runs. It's really no different; it's just the competition level. My job is just to go out there and pitch."

The White Sox are 3-2 on a six-game homestand and Carlos Rodon got the win last night with six scoreless innings of four-hit ball. He struck out five and walked two batters.

"He has that bulldog mentality of just going out and gutting his way through it and just battling," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said of Rodon. "I think that's an impressive part of what we're learning about him -- the way he goes about it, how much he cares, and how much he puts on his own shoulders."

Jose Abreu hit a two-run homer and Melky Cabrera added two RBI.

Chicago will hit the road next against Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh, but first will send Jose Quintana to the mound Wednesday. Quintana is only 2-6 with a 4.28 earned run average in 11 starts and is 0-3 in his past four. He did not record a decision in Friday's 4-3 win over Detroit, allowing three runs and nine hits in seven innings.

Quintana, a left-hander, is 1-1 with a 3.14 ERA in five career starts against the Astros.

The White Sox recently won two of three meetings with the Astros at the end of May and the two clubs split six games last season.
