Rush rally, run away from Rampage
Apr 22, 2007 - 5:40 AM GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (Ticker) -- Trailing in the second half, the Chicago Rush looked to record-setting receiver Bobby Sippio to help lead them home.Matt D'Orazio completed 19-of-31 passes for 327 yards, six touchdowns and one interception as the Rush rallied to post a 75-54 victory over the Grand Rapids Rampage.
Sippio caught 12 passes for a team-record 252 yards and five TDs for Chicago (6-1), which has won six straight and is off to its best start ever.
In the third quarter, after running back Chris Ryan scored from two yards out with 5:49 left to put Grand Rapids up, 47-34, D'Orazio looked for his favorite target to lead the comeback.
After catching a 42-yard score with 4:04 left in the third period to cut the Rush's deficit to 47-41, Sippio caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from D'Orazio to knot the game at 47-47 with just over two minutes left in the quarter.
Rob Mager rushed for a two-yard touchdown just seven seconds into the final period to put the Rush up 54-47 before Sippio hauled in 45-yard TD reception to give Chicago a 61-47 lead with 8:31 left.
It was the fifth score for Sippio, who now has scored 32 touchdowns in seven games - just three shy of his career best for touchdowns in a season set last year.
Mager added another two-yard scoring burst with 1:33 left to increase the lead to 68-47. After Ronney Daniels caught a three-yard touchdown from Chad Salisbury to cut Grand Rapids' deficit to 68-54 with 23 seconds left, Chicago linebacker DeJaun Alfonzo intercepted his second pass of the game, returning it 14 yards for the final tally.
Salisbury went 23-of-39 for 241 yards and four touchdowns, but was picked off three times for the Rampage (2-4).
