Groce leads Destroyers past Soul
Apr 24, 2007 - 4:42 AM COLUMBUS, Ohio (Ticker) -- Damien Groce did it through the air and on the ground.Groce scored four touchdowns and Matt Nagy threw for three scores as the Columbus Destroyers posted a 44-21 victory over the Philadelphia Soul.
Groce had nine catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns and added three carries for 16 yards and two TDs. He opened the scoring less than a minute into the second quarter with a 25-yard TD reception and caught another score from Nagy, a 20-yarder, with 45 seconds left in the first half.
A two-yard TD run by Groce early in the fourth quarter gave Columbus (4-3) a 30-13 lead.
Nagy completed 16-of-28 passes for 208 yards and was intercepted once.
Destroyers linebacker Leroy Thompson had two tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Philadelphia quarterback Clint Stoerner was 23-of-37 for 241 yards and two TDs but was sacked three times.
