Astros agree to terms with Carter, Corporan
Jan 16, 2015 - 12:01 AM Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Houston Astros have agreed to terms with infielder/outfielder Chris Carter and catcher Carlos Corporan on contracts for the 2015 season, thus avoiding arbitration.Carter had a breakout season for the Astros in 2014, batting .227 with 21 doubles, 37 homers and 88 RBI in 145 games. His 37 homers were the most by an Astros player since 2006, when Lance Berkman hit 45.
The 28-year-old Carter is a .222 career hitter with 58 doubles, 85 homers and 216 RBI over 399 games with Oakland and Houston.
Corporan batted .235 with six homers and 19 RBI in 55 games with the Astros last season. He has served as Houston's primary backup catcher since 2013.
In 198 total games with the Astros, the switch-hitter has compiled 21 doubles, 17 homers and 63 RBI.
The Astros have five remaining players eligible for arbitration. Those players are infielder Marwin Gonzalez, catchers Jason Castro and Hank Conger, outfielder Dexter Fowler and left-handed pitcher Tony Sipp.
