Astros land OF Rasmus
Jan 20, 2015 - 10:15 PM Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Houston Astros signed free agent outfielder Colby Rasmus Tuesday to a one-year contract.Rasmus will reportedly make $8 million for the upcoming season, according to multiple reports.
The 28-year-old batted .225 with 40 RBI and 18 home runs over 104 games last season for the Blue Jays.
Rasmus will most likely take over in center field for Dexter Fowler, who was traded to the Cubs on Monday in exchange for infielder Luis Valbuena and right-handed pitcher Dan Straily.
Over six major league seasons with St. Louis and Toronto, Rasmus has compiled a .246 batting average with 352 RBI and 116 home runs in 793 games.
To make room for him on the 40-man roster, Houston designated catcher Carlos Corporan for assignment.
