Pies duo injured, Roos star under scrutiny
Aug 5, 2017 - 5:31 PM Collingwood scored an emphatic win at Etihad Stadium but former North Melbourne teammates Levi Greenwood and Daniel Wells didn't enjoy good nights against their old side. After an error-riddled first half from both teams, the Pies cruised to a 16.15 (111) to 7.15 (57) win.
But Greenwood left the game with a knee injury in the second term and Wells, who managed just five disposals in his first match against his former team, finished the contest on the bench with a thigh injury.
"He had a corkie last week (but) trained pretty well during the week so we went in clean and clear," coach Nathan Buckley said of Wells.
"I think he had an incident during the second quarter where he stretched for a ball and it went from pretty good to not great.
"He was able to play the game out but we'll wait for the dust to settle to see what sort of damage he did."
Injury has restricted Wells to 10 games since his off-season switch from North, but the Pies have lost just two of the matches he has played.
Greenwood was on crutches in the rooms after the game.
His knee injury isn't expected to be serious but it could still end his season.
"The doc is really confident that there's no significant structural damage ... it's more peripheral," Buckley said.
"But we're still thinking there's damage to maybe a medial ligament or the like.
"We don't expect he'll get up for a couple of weeks."
Cunnington - who has been suspended twice already this year - will come under match review panel scrutiny for a high bump on Tyson Goldsack.
The Collingwood defender left the ground for a 20-minute concussion test but was able to return.
"We always coach the guys to have eyes on the ball, go for the ball," North coach Brad Scott said.
"We've got to understand that incidental contact does happen when you've got two guys watching the ball."
Kangaroos forward Ben Brown was knocked out of the game with a concussion in the second quarter and was sent to hospital for observation.
