Brown potential excites Roos coach Scott

Aug 26, 2017 - 5:31 PM North Melbourne coach Brad Scott insists Ben Brown's superb 2017 season is only a taste of what is to come from the AFL key forward.

The 24-year-old Tasmanian has improved his scoring record in each of his four AFL campaigns, with the seven goals in the Kangaroos' 51-point win over Brisbane leaving him with 63 goals this term.

"It could have been even better too," Scott said. after the 19.16 (130)-11.13 (79) victory at the Gabba.

"(There was) a beautiful lace out pass from (Todd Goldstein) to try to get him on the scoreboard with seven seconds to go ... he's had a fantastic year, just a great year."

Scott insists goals are only a part of the package with Brown and regards him now as a fully-rounded forward.

"Everyone's seen the marking, the goals and all of that stuff but the players in our team know just how important he is in other aspects too, he's just become a very complete forward," he said.

"He's always had capability making at full stretch and those things but he had some deficiencies that he needed to work on and it gives me great hope for Ben that he's scratching the surface on what he can.

"The things we've been giving him to work on and coaching him on he's dramatically improved."

Brown finishes in the top four in the Coleman Medal race after bettering last season's tally of 41 majors.

Scott feels this is especially impressive due to him filling the void left by Drew Petrie who departed Arden Street a year ago.

"Finishing up with him last year we wondered how he'd go playing on the best defender every week and he's won the contests the majority of the time," Scott said.

"His improvement since last year has been significant and we think he can improve even more."
