Cahoon sets receptions record as Alouettes down Stampeders 46-19

Oct 11, 2010 - 9:12 PM MONTREAL (CP) - Brian Bratton caught two touchdown passes and Ben Cahoon broke the CFL career receptions record as the Montreal Alouettes avenged a lopsided loss in Calgary last week with a 46-19 victory over the Stampeders on Monday afternoon.

Avon Cobourne ran one in and linebacker Ramon Guzman returned an interception for a TD for Montreal (10-4). Colt David went 6-for-6 on field goals in his first CFL game replacing injured kicker Damon Duval.

Romby Bryant and Arjei Franklin scored TDs and Burke Dales added a field goal for the Stampeders (10-4), who dominated the early season but have now lost three of their last four games. Calgary leads Saskatchewan by two points atop the West Division heading into a showdown with the Roughriders on Sunday in Regina.

The game was interrupted at 9:52 of the fourth quarter when 13-year veteran Cahoon made his 1,007th career catch, a nine-yard toss over the middle from Anthony Calvillo, to break Terry Vaughn's record.

Commissioner Mark Cohon, Cahoon's wife and children and Alouettes officials went onto the field to present the 38-year-old with a plaque as the sellout crowd of 25,012 at Percival Molson Stadium chanted his name.

Coming off a 46-21 loss last week, the Alouettes took advantage of two fumbles by Calgary quarterback Henry Burris and a pair of interceptions to lead 30-4 at the half and 40-4 by the seven minute mark of the third quarter.

Jermain McElveen recovered a Burris fumble and three plays later David was good on his first field goal at 7:20. He was good again from 35, 47, 18, 33 and 32 yards.

Anthony Calvillo found Bratton for a 24-yard TD at 14:19 of the second quarter and, after Burris was picked off by De'Audra Dix, hit Bratton again from the one eight seconds before the intermission.

Calvillo led another drive to start the second half that ended in a field goal and then Guzman picked off a pass with Burris under pressure and returned it 43 yards for the score.

The Stamps finally responded with two quick strikes as Burris found Bryant with a 35-yard pass that was ruled out of bounds on the field but ruled a TD after a video review, then hit Franklin with a 39-yard toss that also survived video review as in-bounds.

Montreal controlled the ball through the fourth quarter, adding two field goals to their total.

With three minutes left Burris was replaced by Drew Tate and his fumble was recovered by Stewart at the 38 but didn't score. Instead, there was a fight that saw Calgary's Bryant and Ken-Yon Rambo and Montreal's Billy Parker ejected.

Alouettes receiver Jamel Richardson, with a second straight 100-yard game, passed 1,000 in reception yards for a third straight year, but Calgary running back Joffrey Reynolds had only 12 yards on six carries and needs 30 more for a sixth straight 1,000-yard rushing season.
