Lulay, Lions beat Roughriders for 8th straight win

Oct 16, 2011 - 11:55 PM Regina, SK (Sports Network) - Travis Lulay threw for 287 yards and two touchdowns, as the British Columbia Lions recorded a 29-18 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Geroy Simon had 86 receiving yards, while Andrew Harris and Arland Bruce both caught a touchdown pass for the Lions (9-6), who have won eight straight games.

Darian Durant, playing with a fractured left pinky toe, threw for 281 yards, while Christopher Milo hit 6-of-7 field goals for the Riders (4-11), who were officially eliminated from playoff contention with the loss.

The first half pitted kicker against kicker, as the Riders grabbed a 12-9 lead at the break behind Milo's four field goals -- of 49, 45, 37 and 21 yards. BC kicker Paul McCallum was good from 51, 23 and 10 yards to keep the Lions within striking distance.

Milo continued to make his mark, hitting a 30-yard field goal on the Riders' opening possession of the third quarter for a 15-9 lead.

The Lions responded, as Lulay completed 4-of-5 passes and Harris reeled off a 16-yard run to set up McCallum's 31 yard field goal.

Milo missed a 45-yarder late in the third quarter, but was good from 32 yards in the beginning of the fourth to put Saskatchewan on top 18-12.

The rest of the game belonged to the streaking Lions, as Lulay hit Bruce for a 72-yard touchdown strike moments later to grab the lead.

After a Riders punt, Lulay hit Harris with a short pass and the back turned upfield, tiptoeing the sideline for a 42-yard touchdown and a 26-18 advantage with 4:24 remaining.

McCallum tacked on a 28-yard field goal to cap the scoring.
