Lions get revenge in rout of Alouettes
Sep 9, 2012 - 6:45 AM Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Travis Lulay threw for four touchdown passes as the British Columbia Lions avenged a loss with a 43-10 romp over the Montreal Alouettes at BC Place.Along with the four scores Lulay completed 23-of-31 passes for 262 yards for British Columbia (7-3) which leads the West Division by a game over second-place Calgary. Andrew Harris rushed for 65 yards and a score and Ernest Jackson led all receivers with 74 yards for the Lions.
Anthony Calvillo threw for only 152 yards while completing 16-of-26 passes for Montreal (6-4) which is now tied with Toronto for the top spot in the East Division. Calvillo's performance snapped a CFL record eight-game streak of 300 yards or more passing for the veteran.
Montreal's struggles to score were surprising considering the Alouettes came into the game leading the CFL in scoring (29.2 ppg).
Paul McCallum connected on the 600th field goal of his career, a 43-yarder, to put the Lions ahead 3-0 on their first drive.
Montreal answered with a five-play, 78-yard drive that ended with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Calvillo to Jamel Richardson.
British Columbia answered right back with the first of Lulay's touchdown passes, a three-yard strike to Shawn Gore, on their next drive.
The score would be tied at 10-10 after Sean Whyte nailed a 31-yard field on the Alouettes next possession.
Another field goal from McCallum began the scoring barrage for British Columbia who went up 20-10 at the half on a five-yard touchdown pass from Lulay to Marco Iannuzzi.
Both team's offenses remained quiet early on in the second half until the Lions scored yet again, this time on a five-yard reception by Nick Moore with 4:58 left in the third quarter.
Lulay's fourth scoring strike of the game, a 43-yard pass to Ernest Jackson, stretched the Lions' already comfortable lead to 34-10.
British Columbia recorded a safety and Andrew Harris added a one-yard touchdown run with under two minutes to play to account for the final score of the game.
These two teams faced off last weekend as well. Montreal was the winner in that contest with a 30-25 decision at home.
