Stampeders hand Eskimos eighth straight loss

Sep 7, 2013 - 4:27 AM Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Bo Levi Mitchell was 19-for-26 passing for 175 yards and a touchdown as the Calgary Stampeders held off the Edmonton Eskimos, 22-12, on Friday.

Jon Cornish rushed for 131 yards and also caught six passes for 46 yards and a touchdown for the Stampeders (7-3), winners in three straight.

Mike Reilly was 16-for-26 passing for 194 yards and John White rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown for the Eskimos (1-9), who have dropped eight straight games for the first time since 1971.

The Stamps got on the board just under four minutes into the game as Mitchell connected with Cornish for an 11-yard touchdown.

Edmonton got on the board with a single 5 1/2 minutes into the second before scoring 90 seconds later on White's one-yard TD plunge to make it 8-7.

Calgary answered back with Rene Paredes' 42-yarder with just over five minutes to go in the first half.

Hugh O'Neill's single with just under two minutes to go in the first to cut the deficit to 10-9, but it would be as close as the Eskimos would get the rest of the way.

Paredes drilled a 34-yarder near the midway point of the third before splitting the uprights from 37 yards out 17 seconds into the fourth to make it seven point game.

O'Neill's 14-yarder with nine minutes left pulled the Eskimos back within 16-12, but Paredes banged a pair of field goals from 50 and 42 yards out to account for the final difference.

Paredes' 50-yarder was the longest field goal in the CFL this season.
