McCallum's late FG lifts Lions over Roughriders
Sep 23, 2013 - 1:12 AM Regina, SK (Sports Network) - Paul McCallum's game-winning 42-yard field goal as time expired lifted the B.C. Lions to a 24-22 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders.Darian Durant flipped an 8-yard TD pass to Weston Dressler with 38 seconds remaining to cap Saskatchewan's 10-point fourth-quarter, which gave the hosts a temporary 22-21 lead.
Marco Iannuzzi, though, returned the ensuing kickoff 28 yards to the BC 44 and Thomas Demarco found Shawn Gore for a 17-yard completion and Courtney Taylor for 15 yards on a 3rd-and-10 to set up McCallum's boot.
DeMarco, making his first career start in place of an injured Travis Lulay, was 18-of-33 for 208 yards and two touchdowns for the Lions (8-4), who won their second straight.
Gore caught six passes for 74 yards and a touchdown in the triumph.
Darian Durant completed 35-of-52 passes for 326 yards and two scores for Saskatchewan (8-4), which has dropped two consecutive contests.
Geroy Simon, who caught five passes for 60 yards, needs just one more catch to pass Ben Cahoon to become the CFL's all-time leader in receptions. Taj Smith had 10 receptions for 104 yards in defeat.
Saskatchewan led 9-6 at the break and 12-6 midway through the third after Chris Milo knocked through a 15-yard field goal, but B.C. tallied the last 15 points of the third.
DeMarco tossed a pair of touchdowns passes, a 43-yard strike to Nick Moore in stride and a 20-yard hookup to Gore, to give the Lions a 21-12 advantage heading into the final frame.
Milo's 47-yard field goal five minutes into the fourth cut the deficit to 21-15.
Earlier, Durant found Chris Garrett for a 37-yard major with two ticks on the first-half clock for the game's lone touchdown of the opening 30 minutes.
