Banks' late scores lift Hamilton
Oct 27, 2013 - 1:27 AM Guelph, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Thanks to a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter from Brandon Banks the Hamilton Tiger-Cats were able to avenge a previous loss with a 27-24 victory over the Montreal Alouettes at Alumni Stadium at the University of Guelph.Banks had 47 yards on just two carries, including a 45-yard rushing touchdown, and also ran back a missed field goal for a touchdown for Hamilton (9-8), which lost to Montreal 36-5 last week. Henry Burris threw for 163 yards and was also intercepted once on 16-of-23 passing. Andy Fantuz caught six balls for 65 yards and Jeremiah Masoli led the team in rushing (61 yards) while also throwing for a touchdown. With the win Hamilton clinched second place in the East Division and a home-field game against Montreal when the playoffs begin in two weeks.
In his second career start Troy Smith tallied 340 yards and two scores, as well as two interceptions, on 23-of-39 passing for Montreal (7-10). S.J. Green (six receptions, 121 yards, TD) and Duron Carter (six receptions, 113 yards, TD) were each important contributors through the air while Tyrell Sutton (16 attempts, 101 yards) led the way on the ground.
Smith got off to a solid start in the contest as he hooked up with Green for a 14-yard touchdown on the Alouettes' second drive of the game. Smith and Green also connected on a 55-yard strike on the possession.
The defense for Montreal pushed the lead to 14-0 when Geoff Tisdale returned an interception 64 yards for a score. The unit added to the scoring early in the second quarter when it recorded a safety.
Hamilton finally responded just before halftime when Luca Congi made good on a 22-yard field goal.
The Tiger-Cats scored first in the second half when Masoli hit C.J. Gable for a 12-yard touchdown pass.
In response, Smith threw his second touchdown pass of the game midway through the third quarter on a 63-yard connection with Carter.
Banks made sure the Alouettes weren't able to run away with the contest when he broke off a 45-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter.
Sean Whyte lined up to attempt a 32-yard field goal late in the period for the Alouettes but the kick missed. The errant attempt ended up with Banks, who returned it 107 yards for a touchdown.
Montreal added a single on another missed field goal from Whyte but was unable to add any more points as Hamilton claimed the victory.

Banks added 61 yards on four kickoff returns...Sutton also had five receptions for 49 yards and 54 yards on three kickoff returns...Montreal had three turnovers in the contest...Congi was 2-of-2 on field goal attempts...Simoni Lawrence recorded five tackles, an interception and a forced fumble for Hamilton.
