Alouettes break six-game losing streak
Sep 30, 2006 - 3:38 AM WINNIPEG, Manitoba (Ticker) -- Montreal Alouettes coach Don Matthews has not felt this good in several weeks.Robert Edwards rushed for 109 yards and scored a touchdown and Damon Duval booted four field goals as the Alouettes snapped a six-game losing streak with a 23-20 triumph over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
After winning its first seven games, Montreal (8-6) embarked on the longest skid in Matthews' 21-year coaching career. However, the Alouettes moved one game ahead of Toronto in the East Division and can clinch a playoff berth Saturday if Saskatchewan beats Edmonton.
Edwards, who had 21 carries, scored the Alouettes lone touchdown on a two-yard run with 4:55 left in the opening quarter, tying the score, 7-7.
Montreal's Anthony Calvillo completed 21-of-30 passes for 272 yards to move into third place in in league history with 3,391 completions.
Winnipeg (7-8) fell 1 1/2 games behind Montreal in the East after being limited to just 71 rushing yards.
Kevin Glenn went 17-of-30 for 166 yards with two interceptions and a 10-yard touchdown strike to Derick Armstrong with 6:23 remaining for the Blue Bombers.
