No sweat: Esks rout Stamps in Labour Day battle
Sep 6, 2011 - 4:14 AM Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Ricky Ray completed 14-of-21 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns, as the Edmonton Eskimos snapped a three-game skid with a 35-7 victory over the Calgary Stampeders at McMahon Stadium.Adarius Bowman caught five passes for 81 yards and a score for the Eskimos (6-3), who won for the first time since a 26-25 win over Toronto on July 29 and moved into a share of the West Division lead with their provincial rivals.
Henry Burris completed 13-of-23 passes for 132 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions for the Stampeders (6-3), who saw a four-game winning streak come to an end.
"I'm very disappointed with our football team, all three phases, especially offense," Calgary coach John Hufnagel said.
With the first quarter winding down, Nik Lewis caught a seven-yard TD pass from Burris to cap an eight-play, 99-yard drive. That was all Calgary had to cheer about for the rest of the game.
Derek Schiavone's 46-yard field goal early in the second quarter cut the gap to four.
Burris fumbled with about five minutes left in the first half. Kerry Joseph capitalized for Edmonton with a one-yard TD run to make it 10-7.
A Damon Duval single and Schiavone 20-yarder made it 14-7. Another Duval single made it an eight-point game at the break.
The Eskimos started to pull away in the third period. After Schiavone made a 42-yard field goal, Marcus Howard caused a Burris fumble. Andrew Nowacki then caught a seven-yard TD pass.
Damaso Munoz intercepted Burris on Calgary's ensuing possession and Bowman hauled in a 31-yard touchdown pass to cap the Esks ensuing series and make it a 32-7 game.
Schiavone's 22-yard field goal was the only scoring in the fourth quarter.
