Stamps stomp Eskimos

Sep 10, 2011 - 6:24 AM Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Henry Burris threw for a score and ran for another touchdown, as the Calgary Stampeders avenged a Labour Day Classic loss with a 30-20 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos.

Burris completed 16-of-30 passes for 316 yards and an interception and carried the ball five times for 47 yards, as the Stampeders won their seventh straight road game going back to last year.

Ken-yon Rambo reeled in seven passes for 121 yards and Nik Lewis caught three passes for 88 yards and a touchdown for the Stampeders (7-3), who were ousted, 35-7, by Edmonton on Monday.

"In the first game on Monday we had poor field position," Stampeders coach John Hufnagel said. "We took better care of the football."

Ricky Ray went 21-of-34 for 345 yards and Kerry Joseph ran for a one-yard score for the Eskimos (6-4).

"We just couldn't finish things off," Ray said. "We just had a lot of missed opportunities out there. I just felt like we didn't do a good job controlling time of possession and field position."

Rene Paredes made 5-of-6 field goals for the Stamps including two in a first quarter that saw the team grab a 7-3 lead.

Eskimos kicker Derek Schiavone was also effective, connecting on 4-of-5 field goal attempts.

Both Paredes and Schiavone hit second-quarter field goals, but the Stamps took a 17-6 lead into the half after Burris connected with Lewis on a 62-yard Hail Mary pass as time expired.

As with the second quarter, both Paredes and Schiavone nailed field goals in the third and Calgary carried a 20-10 lead into the final period.

The Stamps were shut down on their first possession of the fourth and the Eskimos responded with a seven-play, 72-yard drive which resulted in a 32-yard field goal off the foot of Schiavone.

Burris answered with a 51-yard pass to Rambo and an 11-yard pass to Romby Bryant, before reeling off a 13-yard touchdown run to give Calgary a 27-13 lead.

The Eskimos again proved resilient with a seven-play, 75-yard drive, which was highlighted by a 24-yard pass from Ray to Fred Stamps and capped by Joseph's touchdown plunge.

Calgary received the kickoff with 3:28 remaining and burned 2:37 off the clock before Paredes capped the scoring with a 22-yard field goal.

Ray moved into fifth place on the CFL's all-time completions list with 3,062, passing Matt Dunigan...Stampeders lineman Robert McCune suffered an injured right leg in the third quarter.
